Do you have stale bread in your pantry? Turn it into breadcrumbs flavoured with your favourite spices, or use it to make a delicious recipe that everyone will love: bread pizzas, which are easy, quick and waste-free!
A quick and tasty idea to give new life to leftover bread: bread pizzas are small 'fake pizzas' made with slices of stale bread or rolls, topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella. Perfect as an appetiser, savoury snack or last-minute dinner.
Ingredients (for 2–3 people):
• Slices of stale bread or rolls
• Pomodorossa tomato sauce
• Mozzarella cheese
• Extra virgin olive oil
• Salt to taste
• Oregano or basil (optional)
Procedure
Place the bread on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Spread a tablespoon of tomato sauce on each slice, add a pinch of salt and a drizzle of oil.
Top with diced mozzarella and, if you like, oregano or basil.
Bake at 200°C for about 10-12 minutes, until the cheese has melted and the bread is crispy again.
Serve hot: crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, just like a pizza... but without the waste.
Tip - If the bread is very dry, you can brush it lightly with water or oil before topping it: it will become soft on the inside without losing its crispiness.
