A very special bread, with the characteristic 'pocket'
shape, which swells during baking, perfect for filling in many different ways.
It is quick to prepare and will keep for a couple of
days, just warm it up for a few seconds in a frying pan.
We suggest using our favourite spreads and pickles to
create unique flavour combinations with chicken, kebabs, tuna or salmon.
Pita is a typical Mediterranean recipe, popular in
Greece and now famous all over the world!
Here are the ingredients and the procedure to prepare
it at home.
Ingredients for 4 pita bread
- 250 g flour 0
- 150 ml water
- 2 g dry brewer's yeast
- 20 g oil
- 5 g salt
Method
Pour the flour and yeast into a bowl, add the water
and start mixing with a spoon; when the flour is absorbed, add the salt and oil
and knead with your hands until you have a smooth dough.
Leave to rise in an oiled bowl covered with cling film
for about two hours (it should double in volume).
After this time, divide into 4 loaves of 100 g each
and roll out with a rolling pin, giving an elongated shape. Let rise on a
baking tray lined with baking paper for another 30 minutes.
Baking is a very important step and requires a
well-heated static oven at 250°, if with a baking stone even better. Bake the
pita for 5 minutes and stuff to taste!
